In Xénotale, after the moment when Flowey recovered the determination, it was discovered that humans, as well as monsters who could bear it could not exceed a certain amount of determination. In this case, the owners melt like the monsters.
There are two exceptions to the rule however:
- Those who have many human souls can multiply the amount of determination that they can endure by the number of souls they have.
- Zeno has an unlimited amount of determination.
History of discovery[]
One day at the time when Alphys possessed the power of determination, she made an experiment on it and that of Flowey. She first took Flowey's determination and took the same amount of hers. She took water from Waterfall to inject it in while Flowey was sleeping. When he awoke he saw the glass of water -and of determination- and drank the water without knowing that there was any determination in it. Alphys arrived, but it was too late. Flowey had drunk some determination. But it began to melt proving that one can not exceed a certain amount of determination even when one is a human. Flowey withdrew just enough determination to return to the limit and flees. On that day Alphys not only lost the power of determination but also discovered that a limit amount of determination could not be exceeded.
